How We Work

We pride ourselves on delivering compassionate, comprehensive care for all those in treatment with NZEDC.

What to expect as part of your treatment at NZEDC

Treatment Approach

Eating disorders are serious and complex mental health disorders which require integrated and multidisciplinary team approach to care.

The importance of well-integrated care is emphasised in international eating disorder treatment guidelines as a key principle to achieve best possible outcomes. This includes provision of specialist psychological treatment as well as medical-psychiatric consultations and/or dietetic input when indicated.

At NZEDC we have these specialists ‘under one roof’ and we work closely together, which ensures you receive the best package of care.
This includes clinical consultations with our specialist doctor if there are any concerns that need diagnostic clarification, consideration of psychotropic medication or when there is a lack of progress in treatment.

Regular medical monitoring will remain with your GP with whom we will liaise. Having multiple professionals across different services can often become complicated and confusing and we do not endorse this. There may be a few exceptions to this, which will need to be discussed before starting treatment.

Outcome Evaluation

We are focussed on ensuring we deliver the best possible outcomes at NZEDC, which requires treatment and evaluation through validated psychometric questionnaires. Therefore, you will be asked to complete simple questionnaires at the beginning and end of your treatment.

Treatment Consent Form

When you begin treatment with NZEDC you will be asked to complete a Client Registration and Treatment Consent Form. Please remember to read these carefully. If you have any questions regarding its contents, please discuss with your therapist.
