Alix Bradley
Registered Social Worker
Member of ANZASW
Alix is a registered social worker with over eight years of experience providing specialist eating disorder treatment and has worked for almost a decade in the broader mental health field. She is passionate about supporting individuals and families to find freedom from eating disorders and to reclaim their lives.
Alix has a longstanding interest in the mind-body connection. She completed a BA and BSc in Psychology and Biological Anthropology at the University of Auckland. Since completing her Master’s degree in Social Work in 2015, Alix has specialised in clinical social work, a branch focused on assessing, diagnosing, and treating mental illness. Clinical social work takes a holistic approach, exploring how a person’s relationships with their wider environment (e.g. home, school/work, community) are impacted by mental illness.
Alix understands that the impacts of eating disorders are far-reaching, affecting individuals and families in numerous ways. She believes full recovery is possible and whilst treatment can be challenging for many the journey is always worth it. Alix sees it as a privilege to walk alongside people as they reclaim their lives and connect with their voice.
Before joining NZEDC, Alix was the Eating Disorder Liaison for the Waitematā DHB region, covering Auckland’s North Shore and West Auckland. Here, she provided assessments and treatment to young people, adults, and families and supported other professionals in delivering safe and effective eating disorder care across this region. Prior to this, Alix worked across Auckland and Taupō in general mental health teams, where her passion for eating disorder treatment developed and consolidated.
Alix is trained in evidence models for eating disorders including; Family Based Treatment (FBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Adolescent Focused Therapy (AFT). In addition to her work in this area, she uses Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT) and CBT for a wide range of mental health difficulties.
Alix enjoys exploring nature outside her clinical work, particularly bush walks and beach trips. She previously played lacrosse and enjoys open water swimming.
Based in Whangārei, Alix offers online, local face-to-face, and hybrid sessions.
