Single Session Intervention (SSI)

Single Session Intervention (SSI)

Single-Session-Interventions (SSIs) have largely been developed out of the need to improve access to treatment for a range of mental health disorders including eating disorders. They play a role in prevention and very early intervention but also to reduce wait-time before entry into a more intensive treatment programme.

SSIs have been shown in several trials to be effective in showing reduction of symptom severity and subjective impairment.

An SSI is a structured and goal-oriented intervention.

It incorporates:

  • a brief assessment,
  • development of a collaborative and personalised formulation of key maintaining factors to develop a targeted intervention
  • psychoeducation of information, relevant to the individual, about eating disorders and their neurobiology, effects of starvation and its associated risks and known maintaining factors of eating disorders
  • psychoeducation about known principles and mechanisms of change

The goal is to then develop an immediately actionable plan for self-management that empowers the individual and provides them with hope and confidence that change is possible for them.

A Single-Session-Intervention will take 90 minutes and is being provided by Dr Roger Mysliwiec or another senior clinician. It is accessible for all individuals on the NZEDC waiting list but also for someone who might not end up having treatment at NZEDC.

Please complete the contact form as usual and state your interest in the Single Session Intervention (SSI).

Cost is $360.00.
