Dr. Liesje Donkin is a Registered Clinical Psychologist who holds dual qualifications in clinical and health psychology. Liesje has a special interest in working with eating disorders. She has worked at the Auckland Regional Eating Disorder Service, working with both adults, young people and their families. She has also worked in Australia with Headspace, helping young people with eating disorders among other challenges. Liesje works with people with eating disorders using Family Based Treatment (FBT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT).
As a result of her training, Liesje works collaboratively with her clients to develop a shared understanding of their difficulties and needs, and the best form of treatment for each individual. Whilst this is often in individual or family therapy format, Liesje also has experience working with couples.
Liesje has worked with a range of people from different backgrounds including those in hospital for treatment, private practice clients and in a publically funded clinical. Her work has involved helping people with Chronic Pain, Chronic Fatigue and health problems, Depression, Post-traumatic Stress, anxiety disorders, phobias (including dog phobias). Whilst comfortable working with many different problems and people, Liesje has a special interest in working with eating disorders, emotional dysregulation and problems with mood, anxiety and self -harm, and particularly enjoys working with children and young people.
Liesje has trained in New Zealand and in Australia and is comfortable working with Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), within a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) framework, and Family Based Treatment (FBT) for eating disorders. Liesje also has experience using models to aide behaviour change for health problems and helping people develop skills for problem-solving.
Liesje currently practices from the NZEDC office at 36 Pollen Street, Grey Lynn.
